This facility houses
abrasive blasting and painting operations for a variety of work boats,
tugs, and causeway sections up tp 102 feet in length and 105 tons. The
sections are transported by a straddle lifter from an adjacent waterfront
slip into the buildings' blast/paint bays. The two bays are 40 feet high
by 40 feet wide by 117 feet long, and each accommodate bath blasting and
painting operations.
Special systems include:
rail-mounted straddle lifter, abrasive blasting, grit reclamation, respiratory
air, dust collection, spray painting, industrial ventilation, compressed
air, and safety alarms. This facility is designed ot minimize negative
environmental impact from the blasting and painting operations. The project
was executed as a design-build project.
