Location:
Virginia Beach, Virginia Corporate Landing Middle School was designed for 1,800 students. The school was site adapted from a previous school also designed by Waller, Todd & Sadler. The site adaption included changes in the academic program and exploratory classroom location and layout. The school was downsized by approximately 12,500 SF through additional academic program changes and by reducing the atrium, auxiliary gym, and weight training areas. Material changes were made throughout in order to further reduce costs. The school design is comprised of two academic wings containing sixth, seventh, and eighth grade classrooms, and the exploratory education classrooms. These classroom wings are attached to the administrative and media center cose separating the academic, student intensive areas from the more public gymnasium and auditorium spaces. By organizing the facility in this way, the administrative area and media center are centralized and allow administrative control of both the academic and semi-public spaces. The school includes a 630-seat auditorium and special student gathering spaces. Athletic facility design includes a 500-seat gymnasium, supporting offices and storage areas, locker rooms, combined training/wrestling room, and commercial laundry room. Exterior facilities include a 6-lane running track, basketball courts, soccer, football, baseball, and softball fields. |
