Location:
Fort Lee, Virginia The original four-story Command Headquarters was designed to house a staff of 600. Passive solar techniques of orientation and shading were used to reduce energy consumption. Exterior materials include precast concrete, aluminum panels, and tinted, mullionless windows. The addition to this facility, also designed by WTS, was completed in association with the Corps of Engineers. The addition accommodates a staff of 300. Designed to be compatible with the original structure, the same exterior materials were specified. Both the original building and the addition were designed with a central service core, which allows for a flexible, open office environment around the perimeter of the building. Both buildings include an emergency power generator and an under-floor distribution system for power, telephone, and data wiring. |
